Apply for a GPU community grant: Academic project
We are using iDEM, a European Union initiative focused on making written information easier to understand through Easy Read / plain-language rewriting.
Our goal is to make iDEM accessible as an interactive public API, so anyone can send text or questions and receive clearer, easier-to-read responses. This can help people who benefit from simplified language, including non-native speakers, children, older adults, and people with cognitive accessibility needs.
At the moment, the iDEM model is running on free CPU hardware, which is too slow for interactive use. Even simple requests can take around a minute or more. A GPU would allow the model to answer much faster and make the service practical for real-time accessibility use.
We are requesting a free GPU upgrade so we can properly run and test iDEM as an accessible public-facing service, helping bring this European accessibility initiative to more users.
